I am a public policy specialist, academic researcher and nascent educator who works in the fields of international development, child protection and business and human rights (BHR). After 20+ years of work experience focused on public policies and programs that brought greater attention to end violence against children under the Sustainable Development Goals in 2015, I returned to university to complete a PhD (International Development) at the University of Ottawa School of International Development and Global Studies.
My current research interests are to understand how research agendas and tools from different fields of inquiry can be brought together, through multidisciplinary research, to address the ethical dilemmas arising from widely reporting instances of harmful child labour in global supply chains.
I have worked with UNICEF's Office of Research, Save the Children UK and in India with CHETNA (the Centre for Health Education, Nutritional Awareness). Since 2003, I have been employed for the Government of Canada, including in The Senate of Canada: Office of the Honourable Landon Pearson (2003-2004) to coordinate the development of "A Canada Fit for Children: Canada's National Plan of Action for Children" (2004); for Employment and Social Development Canada (2004-2008) and for the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and Global Affairs Canada (2008-present). Key areas of professional expertise include governance, human rights, child protection, child labour, social protection, early childhood development, child care and risk-based approaches to protection from sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA).
